April minutes: Approved.
Chairman's remarks: As the number of open cases drops, Fassino said the funding and number of case managers is dropping, as well. Mark Kwiat finished in late April. His service was honored with a gift certificate and cake after the meeting. Fassino said the remaining cases are complex and asked if there was interest in funding some case manager positions when the existing arrangements stop. Holzhauer indicated Washington Illinois Area Foundation may be able to help.
Cases considered: There were 31 cases for unmet needs, including insurance deductibles, driveway and concrete work, fences, sheds and medical assistance. A total of $94,481.04 was pledged. All cases received at least some reimbursement. Thirteen were completely funded.
One of the larger unmet need cases involved construction fraud. Ori attested it was œreally bad work that would have to be redone and estimated it could take nearly $100,000. There is no legal remedy because the contractor has no money. The case was partially funded and there was discussion of trying to find the client some help with the labor involved.
Four soil remediation reimbursement cases were presented, ranging from around $6,000 to more than $15,000. A total of $18,000 was pledged.
There were 18 soil remediation quote cases, with potential costs from $1,480 to $14,300. Funders agreed to spend up to $63,555 to fund those projects.
